LUVRA Hydraulik is involved in a globally unique project for LNG tankers, which convert liquid gas back to gas at sea (regasification) and feed it into underwater pipelines.
The client is Golar LNG, one of the world's largest owners and operators of tankers transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) across the world's oceans. Regasification at sea represents a new chapter in global gas supply: Increased Flexibility
In the transport of natural gas from the extraction point to the consumer, this means higher supply security and lower transportation and transformation costs.
The so-called Floating Storage & Regasification Units (FSRU) require hydraulically controlled loading arms (Marine Loading Arms) that can safely compensate for wave action during the transfer of the -170°C liquid gas from ship to ship. Motion Reference Units (MRUs), which are proportional valves with very high flow rates, are used for this purpose.
LUVRA was responsible for the design and realization of this technically demanding hydraulic solution, which operates not only with large flow rates but also requires rapid reversal of flow direction.
The requirements for control electronics and mechanics are substantial. Ambient temperatures ranging from -30°C to +40°C and saltwater present challenges that demand significant experience from the Nuremberg hydraulics specialist for each such project.
The effort has paid off. The system was delivered in June 2013 and commissioned in Spain. The MRUs are scheduled to be installed in Brazil in November 2013.
April 2011/July 2010 - Development of Complex Hydraulic Controls for Australian Marine Loading Arms Handled by LUVRA
Our team has been awarded the contract to develop electro-hydraulic systems for controlling marine loading arms as part of the Gorgon Barrow Island project in Western Australia.
LUVRA is supplying the complete hydraulic and electrical systems for the control of the planned 8 LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and 2 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) loading arms in explosion-protected areas for Chevron Australia Pty Ltd.
The scope of delivery includes:
The successful acceptance of the components by the client took place in April 2011 at our production facilities in Nuremberg.
